DIY COMIC WALLET

HELLO EVERYONEEEE

I'm so excited to do this post because it is my first DIY post. It's been really long since I did a DIY. The last time I did one was galaxy inspired shoes and that was almost exactly a year back....Pretty sad, I know

Ok so basically a few nights back, I looked at my broken wallet, my Betty and Veronica comic books, this random roll of clear tape on my study table and realized "WHY NOT I MAKE MY OWN WALLET!!!"
Besides I needed one anyway, and I do not have enough money yet to buy myself this Charles and Keith Wallet I have been eyeing since forever, so I thought why not I make my own wallet to last me until I can get a new wallet. And besides, I remember making a similar comic wallet when I was 15. I even got a lot of compliments for it from all my friends and they all wondered how I made it. That one, however, was a simple envelope style wallet so it wasn't very difficult to make. The one I made this time is a full fledged wallet with pockets for cards and cash. So it actually took me 4 HOURS to make this. But it was really therapeutic and really fun. So if you are someone who loves doing DIYs and you want to carry around a piece of your favourite comics everywhere, then definitely give this a try.

*DISCLAIMER*
This wallet isn't meant to last you for a very long time. Its basically all just paper and tape put together so do not expect it to be extremely durable or kept in super good condition for a long time. It will wear along the way. However, it may last reasonably long like 6-8 months, especially if you can make it sturdy enough. The one I made 3 years back lasted me around there as well so yeap. This project is basically to let out your inner creativity and just really have fun as you make it.

So here is how your final wallet will look like after you're done

Pretty cool huh? So let's get started

Step 1: Use a wallet as your template. I'm using my broken wallet here

Step 2: Trace it on your big A3 sized sheet. I suggest you use those papers meant for drawing instead of printing papers.

Step 3: After tracing it, use a ruler to go over the lines again.

You should have something like this

Step 4: Cut your comic strips and lay it out on your sheet

Step 5: Glue them all. I also suggest using a good quality liquid white craft glue instead of a gluestick because you can just use a brush to spread a wide area with glue and stick everything at once. Plus you can use the glue and go over the edges to make sure everything is well stuck.

Trim off all the excess

And you should have a comic sheet that looks like this

Step 6: Do the exact same thing at the back and trim of the excess

Once you're done, make sure you go over both the sides with tape. Just cover the whole thing with tape. This is crucial to prevent your papers from tearing apart and also to give it a smooth finish.
Note: Stretch the tape out as well as possible to prevent formation of bubbles. But even if you get them, do not panic, just let it be. It doesn't look that bad anyway.

Do the same thing to the other side too.

Step 7: Measure the length and width of the main pocket

Step 8: Draw it out on a paper, cut it and stick your comic strips on it.
Note: Add at least 2 cm extra to the length and the width because we will be folding them later. That is why you don't have to stick the comic strips all the till the edges because they will be folded and hidden away.

Step 9: Cut off the excess and use your clear tape to cover this whole thing (front and back).

You can see how much bubbles I have at the back but this part will be hidden anyway.
Step 10: Draw 2cm length boxes on each corner

Then cut them out

Fold them in

And lay it out in the middle section of your wallet. First use glue to stick it on. Since its covered with tape, it will be slippery, so use some heavy books to stack it on your pocket and leave it for a while until the glue sets in.

Once it dries up, use lots of tape to go over the edges again to make it more sturdy. And there you have it, your main pocket is done. Let's move on with the card pockets now.

Step 10: Measure your side pockets and cut 4 pieces of paper

Cover them with comic strips

Trim the excess and tape it all over

Use clear tape to make a pocket for your pictures. You can even use a clear sheet to make your life easier but I didn't have that so I had to use tape instead. Even though it formed some bubbles and it was pretty tricky to stick them together because of their flimsiness, it worked anyway.

Now arrange them all like the way it is arranged in your wallet and you should have something like this.

AND THERE YOU GO YOUR WALLET IS DONE

Front

Back

And the insides

So this was it. I know it's a pretty long process and many of you might just be too lazy to do this. But if you like doing DIYs like this, then I really do suggest trying this out. It looks tiring but it's actually really fun. And no one will have a wallet like yours.

That is it for today guys, I'll blog again soon.
Take care

Goodnightttt :)
