Photography At Coney Island

Hello guys,

So way back in semester 1 I had a short course on photography at school. This is when it all PROPERLY started. By this I mean that I was actually always into taking pictures. I love taking pictures. I remember when I was 10 or 11 and I saved up just enough to buy my first digital camera by Nikon and I used to take pictures of just about anything and everything. Few years down the road, when I turend 14/15, I still enjoyed taking pictures through my dad's camera. I would always bring it to school for any events or when I had any outings with my friends. Back then camera phones weren't of very good quality so people still relied on cameras to capture casual moments. I really enjoyed it. Few years down the road again, 17/18 years old, my dad gave me his olympus camera that I brought with me to Australia and Europe and I took pictures of EVERYTHINGGGG. I loved capturing the scenaries and buildings that I never get to see in my everyday life and I loved how they looked even more beautiful in pictures. HOWEVER, up until then I always clicked pictures on auto mode...which pretty much anyone can take good pictures with...coz the camera automatically sets everything for you so you just have to click. Not to say that just because you take pictures on auto mode means you shouldn't be proud of your pictures. Auto mode is great for beginners because you can really focus on the way you take pictures and the composition of your pictures and train your eyes to see how you can take pictures differently. My dad always says that you can fix the lighting using any application but no one can teach you how to take a picture. That is something only you can do. So really if you are absolute beginner, I would suggest you to try taking pictures only on auto and train your aesthetic vision.

Now at the age of 19/20 when I started uni and I had a proper project on photography, we had an actual photographer come and teach us about it. This is why I say that this was the beginning of my photography journey on a proper note. We had to take pictures on manual mode, meaning we decide the settings of the camera depending on what picture we are taking and how much light we need. I had a really hard time at first understanding the combination of the 3 settings we were taught (aperture, shutter speed and ISO) It was very new to me. But it was interesting nonetheless. Luckily, my dad is into photography so he helped me explain them as well. But it is always easier when someone explains. Problem comes when you actually start taking pictures and then you forget some stuff. I may write another post showing you some of the pictures I took for my project and during my classes. I had a lot of fails but I eventually ended up taking a pretty good final picture for my project and got good remarks about it.

Anyway, now that my holidays have started, I really want to become better at this. I am no where near good yet but I have come across a long way I would say. I understand the 3 settings now and I am able to adjust accordingly depending on the type of picture I want to take. The satisfaction is real when you see pictures come out well. This week I took a trip down to Coney Island at Punggol to take some pictures. I thought I would start out with nature. Nature is always the easiest thing to start out with in my opinion as it has natural lighting and you are quite free to take pictures in anyway you like. After that, you can try out with buildings and then I would suggest you to try indoors and finally night photography. Night photography can be tricky so it is always better to leave it for the last after you have tried and somewhat mastered (become comfortable) with taking other pictures during the day.

Coney Islands was a beautiful place to take pictures at. I would really suggest you to go there to take pictures if you are into photography yourself. Personally, I found it slightly hard to take pictures as the whole place looks the same if you don't pay close attention. So I thought it was a very good place to train your aesthetic vision as you will have to think "how else can I take this picture and make it look different/unique"

Anyway, I'm not gonna ramble a lot because I know people don't like to read much hahaha! I'm just gonna insert some of my favourite pictures of Coney Island now. I also edited my pictures using ViewNx2. Mostly I just adjusted using the d-lighting option. Some pictures I had to adjust the shadow and contrast too. But overall not much changes as the lighting was already ok. Just that some got a bit overexposed and some were a bit underexposed (still trying to become better at adjusting that).

That is it. I took all of them on manual mode so I had to adjust the settings everytime I took a different shot and it was tiring hahaha but I enjoyed it. I know they can be much better and some pictures came out ok but not the way I wanted them to. I guess that will just come with more practice and more understanding. I hope you liked them.

I'll be back again. See youuuu

Goodnightttt

Types of Tweeters

Hello guys,
So a long time back (almost a year back) I wrote this post on the types of tweeters I have personally observed. Not sure why I never posted it but I'll post it now since I thought it's quite funny. Take it light heartedly. I know which category I belong. You can see where you belong too :p

1) The ghost:
This person is always there, silently watching everyone's tweets...but hardly ever tweets to the point you think that person has probably quit twitter...and then one day he favourites your tweet out of no where and establishes his presence

2) The binge
It feels as though this person goes on a twitter fast. There's no sign of this person for hours and all of a sudden, this person is tweeting 10 tweets in a row...and then he disappears again.

3) The educational one
Who needs to study or note down homework when you follow this person. This person will remind you of everything school related and occasionally give you revision through twitter itself

4) The geek
Everything related to technology that you will have no idea about, this person will tweet

5) The unfortunate
This person just doesn't understand why everything is so fucked up in their life. "What is my life all about? Do I even mean anything to anyone? I'm so used to it why does it even hurt?" Basically if you are having the shittiest day of your life, this person is the person to retweet stuff from

6) The gymmer/sporty
This person loves to tell everyone their workout schedule or just anything that can show everyone just how much into fitness they are. Tweets can include- body/gym selfies, how whey is life, how much weights they can lift, how running liberates them etc etc

7) The "cool" party animal
This person will know all the repulsive shortforms that can exist on urban dictionary and will use them. This person also likes to talk in "aye's" a lot of "fuck's" and "nigga's" and "bitches" everywhere and of course how can their twitter page be complete without pictures of them with alcohol and ciggs because who has the time to give a fuck about health and education and future

8)The kardashian wannabe
This person truly believes she was born to be a Kardashian. From outfits to selfies to face, everything has to be kardashian aesthetics. Let's not forget commenting on every thing about their lives like as if they truly care about their opinion.

9) The in-love
This person is in love alright. This person will post all his cute screenshots with his partner, pictures of them together and lovey dovey tweets to their partner. You almost begin to think his partner is the only person he follows on twitter.

10) The out of love
This person has experienced too many relationship let downs. They think they know the real life. Has no intention of ever falling in love because "love only brings pain". Consider themselves strong because of their experiences but occasionally does put out the fact that they need to be fixed -_-

11) The retweeter
This person basically talks through retweets, not tweeting

12) The retweeter 2
This person is just on twitter to retweet whatever they like. It's hard for them to draw the line between twitter and tumblr

13) The football obsessed
We all know someone who loves football and it's cool. But this person truly believes he's the best most knowledgeable live commentator on twitter possible.

14) The preacher
This person is apparently full of wisdom. How to be in a relationship, how to love, be kind, be a better person, this person has the answer to all your internal struggles.

15) The sexually frustrated
Most of this person's feed is full of sexualgifs. When you're on this person's feed you need to make sure no one is seeing your screen first before you can continue.

Well these are all I could think of for now. Hope you enjoyed reading it just as much as I did writing it.

See you soon <3

I'm backkkk

HIIII,

Wow, so I checked and my last post was in like May 2015?!?! I surprisingly still got some views on some posts throughout the year which is cool. I didn't actually forget about this blog, I just really got so into school, writing a blog post was the last thing on my mind. So here is a little (long) update about my life the past one year. Not sure if anyone even cares but then again this would also be a way for me to reflect on everything that has happened.

Alright let's begin with uni. So I started my degree program in fashion designing and textiles in Lasalle College Of The Arts for those who don't know (although it's pretty much all over my social media coz I'm always complaining about it HAHA). And may I just say, what a fucking ride it has been. Designing course is seriously no joke. I used to think, " how hard can it be?" "I'm pretty ok with art and creative to some extent and I love fashion I'm sure I will nail this" BUT NOOOOOOOO!!! This is not just drawing and creating you know, it is really so much more. Ok let's start with sewing. I used to have this image in my mind about fashion students being all cool with their measuring tape and sewing like a boss and having the best garments out and looking all perfect. But this is just fantasy guys. Real life fashion students life is nothing that glamourous. Pattern drafting requires so much accuracy, patience, logical thinking, thinking on your feet and BEING GOOD AT MATHS OMG!! All of which I don't have. Then there is sewing. If you think sewing is a child's game, then you could not be far from wrong. I used to see tailors in india sew with their eyes close and only after sewing myself have I realized what an incredible skill that is and how much talent and practice you need to be perfect at it. One year in and I'm still not close to "good" for sewing. Then there is drawing and digital classes so you learn basic human proportions, faces, shading, using different mediums because in designing drawing is your language. If you can't draw properly, be it digital or hand drawn, you cant communicate your ideas at all. Drawing was fun to be honest, but a lot of work and my teacher was seriously so hard to please. I have never seen someone as talented as her and I really admire her work and she really made things so easy and manageable, but boy was she hard to please. And the pressure is real when you see your coursemates being soooooo extremely talented when it comes to sewing or drafting or drawing. And a lot of them even had experiences before. And then there was me with 0 experiences except for the noob drawings I did now and then. I really wondered how I even got accepted with all these students. It felt both nice and sad. Then there was the actual designing process itself. I used to think designing is just you know, you sit, think about what you want, draw it out and TADAAA! but no...that is not what designing is hahaha. You have a journal and you do pages and pages of research and then you need a lot of boards like moodboard, details board, market board, all these together makeup your final designs at the end. I remember in semester 1 I was so extremely lost. I just did research for the sake of doing something but in semester 2 I finally realized how to do meaningful research and it really helps in coming up with meaningful designs.
Overall, I have learnt A LOT in this one year. It's amazing to see how far I have come. From someone who took 2 weeks to learn how to just thread a sewing machine, to someone who can sew a whole garment. From someone who did not even know how to draw human figures or faces, to someone who can finally draw any illustrations she want (even though it isn't perfect yet). From someome who designed out of the air, to someone who can do meaningful research and strongly reflect it in her designs (this one not I say ah HAHAHA, I swear my teacher wrote it in my feedback form), from someone who couldn't even draw one straight line using the pen tool on illustrator, to someone drawing loads of technical flats digitally and really I can go on and on about the areas I have improved. My results? Well they aren't the best to be honest, they're alright but they show my improvement and my brother in law always tells me one thing "ask yourself where would you rate yourself in terms of quality in the beginning and where would you rate yourself now. If you have rated yourself higher now, then that is what all that matters" wise words wise words.

In terms of friends, I made a bunch of friends in my first year. I was blessed with such a nice class and nice people. I've heard fashion course students can get quite bitchy and competitive but honestly everyone, though they were competitive, they really helped anyone who needed. No one had the "why must I help and make them do better" kind of attitude. We would stay until 10-11 pm at sewing room or textile room, someone's laptop will be blasting music and everyone would be whining about work left and doing their own work and now and then laughing at the stupid things someone would say and do because they're too tired to function. Good times Good times. We will probably be continuing the same thing 2nd and 3rd year but we will have more people since the graduated diploma kids would join us in year 2 degree program and also we all will get separated into our majors. Speaking of major, I chose to major in textile designing. Textile was the only class I truly enjoyed since the beginning of the year. I find it really fun, dying, printing and second year onwards we will learn things like embroidery and knitting and weaving and I'm quite excited for those classes.

Well that is pretty much for how my life was in year 1. Holidays have started now and I'm kind of figuring out what to do. I was planning of interning but I can't since I'm leaving for SF on the 25th May. So super excited about that because I cannot wait to see my sister and brother in law again and see their new home, and go to LA see disney land and universal studios and buy all the cheap drugstore makeup from target. OH WHICH REMINDS ME, this whole year, I have gotten so into makeup. I never realized how fun it can be. I used to watch makeup videos since like I was 15 but I only started using it a bit when I was 18? And now I have this some what big collection of makeup and the days I feel sad, I just glam myself and it's like therapy I swear. I have a beauty and makeup account on instagram @beautyinthepocket_ if you are interested. Also my friends and I have a beauty and fashion blog (www.bellera.squarespace.com) WHICH is a bit dead now but it will soon be on pretty soon now that our holidays are approaching.

Well that...is pretty much it actually. I don't know what else to talk about. I was thinking of doing a part time job but I'm not sure if anyone is willing to hire me immediately for a month? But it would be great if they do because I have nothing to do at home. I also want to start watching some new series. I'm also planning to hone my photography skills now that I have some free time because I've always enjoyed that to some extent. We had a short photography class at school and I had a lot of fun taking pictures of our model. I enjoy taking pictures of people. Hopefully I can get to do some makeup and photography on some of my friends if they let me. That would be damn fun. But yeah let's see.

So that is it for my 2:30 AM post. Really thanks for reading if you bothered to hahaha. Oh I also have askfm that has been dead since ages but I wouldn't mind using it now if anyone is interested to ask anything. I'm so free I actually wouldn't mind answering ANYTHINGGG. Here is the link

Anyway, I'll be back soon. FOR SURE THIS TIME not gonna go missing for another 1 year. HAHA

Byeeeeee and goodnight <3
